Enter the Pember Library and Museum of Natural History

The Pember Museum collections are a wonderful example of the biodiversity of the area 100 years ago, and also include specimens from around the world.

There are over 7,000 objects in the collections of the Pember Museum, covering a wide variety of natural history subjects. Nearly 80% of the collections are on display. Specimens include vertebrate (birds, mammals, and reptiles) and invertebrate animals (insects, arachnids and sea life), rocks and minerals, fossils, some anthropological and historical materials, and a herbarium (dried plant specimens).

Slate Valley Museum

The Slate Valley Museum's mission is to collect, catalog, conserve, exhibit, and interpret materials, artifacts, machines, and information that demonstrate the geology of slate and the history of slate quarrying and the quarrying community in the Slate Valley of New York and Vermont.
Our gift shop is stocked with specialty slate products from local businesses. We also source products from area crafters. The contents of our gift shop directly relate to our mission, so items include children's books relating to immigration and the cultures of immigrants who settled in the Slate Valley, slate products, and geology.
